General Framework for Socio-Occupational Guidance

The Socio-Occupational Guidance (OSO) methodology provides young people with useful tools for self-knowledge, understanding the world of education, and understanding the world of work. The Ministry of National Education (MEN) identifies these three areas as the central dimensions of the OSO methodology (Life Pathways: A Support Manual for Socio-Occupational Guidance, first edition 2013). In this sense, OSO focuses on identifying their dreams, interests, and abilities, but also on providing them with relevant information about educational and employment options, enabling them to recognize realities and opportunities within their communities.

The OSO in academic secondary education works with young students in the last three grades (9th, 10th, and 11th), as this is the time when they begin to make decisions about the professions or trades they will pursue in the future. This stage of life marks the beginning of their transition to the "adult" world, where, based on their interests and the development of their values and identities, they engage in an internal dialogue or debate regarding the range of options they identify.
