Social Progress Index for Cities – IPS Ciudades
The Social Progress Index (SPI) is the first comprehensive measurement model that allows for an assessment of people's well-being in a society, independently of and complementary to economic measures. This Index, created by the Social Progress Imperative program, has been replicated for Colombian cities since 2015 by the Alliance for Social Progress Colombia, whose members include: Fundación Corona, Fundación Avina, the Red de Ciudades Cómo Vamos (How Are We Doing Cities Network), the Social Progress Imperative, and Deloitte.
The Social Progress Index (SPI) analyzes social progress through three dimensions: Basic Human Needs, Foundations of Wellbeing, and Opportunities. This analysis is carried out by grouping indicators into 12 components: Nutrition and health, water and sanitation, housing, personal safety, access to knowledge, access to information and communications, health and well-being, environmental sustainability, personal rights, personal freedom and choice, tolerance and inclusion, and access to higher education.
In this 5th edition, the IPS Cities includes measurements for 15 capital cities, all members of the Red de Ciudades Cómo Vamos (How Are We Doing Cities Network), for the period between 2016-2020. The cities included are: Armenia, Barranquilla, Bogotá, Bucaramanga, Buenaventura, Cali, Cartagena, Cúcuta, Ibagué, Manizales, Medellín, Montería, Pereira, Quibdó and Santa Marta.
A total of 55 indicators were analyzed, of which 7 correspond to subjective indicators of Citizen Perception.
