Así Vamos en Salud 2016 Index
The Así Vamos en Salud Index aims to make available to the public some of the information available in the health sector, consolidated into a tool that allows us to account for the evolution of the health of Colombians from a multidimensional perspective through a synthetic number capable of describing the state of health in our country.
This year, the updated version of the index is presented in accordance with the availability of information.
The calculation of the Así Vamos en Salud Index is based on four pillars, most of which are related to the observatory's areas of measurement. These pillars are: population health, institutional effectiveness of the sector, sector financing, and citizen perception. Each pillar comprises dimensions, which contain different variables used as the primary units of measurement for constructing the index. The total number of variables in the index is 72.
Before including the variable values in the index, they were normalized where necessary. Thus, as a matter of terminology, we distinguish between variables and indicators. The variable refers to the raw value of the variable, and the indicator refers to the normalized value of the variable.
With the aim of contributing to the improvement of Colombians' health through the monitoring, objective evaluation, and dissemination of results in the sector, the Así Vamos en Salud Observatory set out to develop an index that shows the population the state, progress, and challenges of health in Colombia. The Así Vamos en Salud Index serves as a baseline from which the Observatory makes much of its information available to the public, consolidated into a tool that allows for an understanding of the evolution of Colombian health from a multidimensional perspective. The purpose of the index is to provide a concise numerical representation of the state of health in our country.
